Fight Another Day
This slow rock ballad came out of a period of intense collaboration between myself and two other collaborators, Steve Allday (Lancaster, UK) and Kevin Ockwood, (Carrollton, Texas, USA).
I came up with the basic chord sequences plonking away at the keyboard, and playing electric guitar, and bass. However, the collaboration really took off when Steve, an excellent singer/songwriter, and Kevin, and splendid drummer, joined the project.
Or be what may, you have to walk away
So that you live to fight another day"
The music I came up with is influenced a bit by UFO and Deep Purple, among other influences. I'm not sure of Steve and Kevin's influences, but they contributed a lot. Steve wrote the poetic lyrics and named the song "Fight Another Day". He also wrote and performed the great vocal melodies and vocal harmonies, as well as providing acoustic guitar, better piano, and strings, and having input into the arrangement! Both Steve and Kevin also contributed mixes, though this version, influenced by their versions, was mixed by me.

Lyrics by Steve Allday
Verse 1
Did you see the tides approaching
Feel the waves upon the shore
Were the fires that burned within your eyes
Put out by the tears that fall
When the night appears too early
And your fears become the rain
When the pillars of trust, turn to rust
Where is the strength to hide the pain
Link section
And the picture that you hold is worth a million words
When you hold it up against the times of love that you heard
It's all a memory now
A distant memory now
And the barriers are holding all your hopes and your dreams
From the hurtful connotations and the lies but it seems
They're merely breaking down Forever breaking down
Verse 2
Does the sound of broken glasses
Hide the sound of breaking hearts
Can the sands of time, still align
To stop your world from falling apart
Then you start to see it clearly
As the haze just drifts away
The many fights, the sleepless nights
The endless times you stayed
Link section 2
And the barriers that held all of your hopes and your dreams
From the hurtful connotations and the lies now it seems
Have finally broken down
Forever broken down
As it sickens you to hear the lines of love and hate blurred
You see the future disappear within a tirade of words
Your love has run aground...
You're love has run aground
Chorus 2
Heeey, do you have the strength to stay
When at the end of the day
All the sky's are grey
Or be what may, you have to walk away
So that you live to fight another day
Verse 3
And as the slowly falling feathers
Find their final resting place
A passing look of anguish falls
Upon your broken face
The door now closed behind you
As you lock it one last time
Reminiscent of, the shards of love
You hide behind a stronger mind
Link section 3
And the picture that you hold is worth a million words
When you hold it up against the times of love that you heard
They're all a memory now
A distant memory now
And the barriers that held all of your hopes and your dreams
They start to mend, they start to build a little stronger it seems
You're gonna be ok
You have to be okay
Chorus 3
Heeey, do you have the strength to stay
When at the end of the day, all the sky's are grey
Or may be you have to walk away
So that you live to fight another day
Solo
End lines
Did you see the tides approaching
Feel the waves upon the shore
