Amazing Grace Blues
Of all the collaborations I started, I probably had the least input into this one. It started life as a 16 bar blues influenced by the various blues artists, including country blues artists, that I've listened to over the years. It is not a very common blues form.
Amazing Grace
How sweet the sound"
Peter Vogel, St. Louis, MO, USA, then came up with some interesting lyrics about a relationship between a man and the enigmatic Grace, taking place largely in a bar. He came up with the title of 'Amazing Grace Blues'.Â
Ricky Shaw, Seattle, Washington, USA then joined the project as vocalist and created the vocal lines for the song. Ricky drove the project forward, recruiting various Kompoz members to collaborate on the number. These were:
Jean Lui Toudou, from Spain who contributed the bass lines.
Chris Bouchard from DWLand, Woodshed, Canada, on drums.
Theresa Redfern, Seattle, Washington, USA, who contributed cool harmony backing vocals.
S Fidler, Maryland USA, who also contributed the excellent harmony backing vocals.
When the song tracking was finished, Rick enlisted Joshua O'Neil, Mooresville, Indiana, USA to work on the mixing. However, the mix presented here was done by me. I also played the electric guitars, and came up with the basic song structure. I could do a better job with the guitar now that I've been practising for a few years more, so maybe i'll do some re-recording at some point!
Rick chose the artwork, of a beautiful, enigmatic looking woman.

Lyrics by Peter Vogel
Note there are minor changes here from Peter's original lyrics. I've transcribed the lyrics as they are sung.
Verse 1
Well I got a woman
No much come around
Yeah I got a woman
Not much come around this place
But when she does,Â
She has a way to lift me up
And lay me down
She has a way to lay me down
Verse 2
The other day
Down at the end of the bar
Just mindin' my business
I'm at the end of the bar
Drinkin' from a Mason jar
Just mindin' my own business
When who walks in
I say "where you bin?"
But she has a way of walkin'
And a way of talkin'
Makes me forget what this all about
Chorus with harmony vocals (Amazing Grace refrain)
Amazing Grace
How sweet the sound
Amazing Grace
Amazing Grace
How sweet the sound,
Amazing Grace
Amazing Grace
No set me up nor leave me down
Verse 3
Now what is it, as a man
That I'm to do?
Oh just what is it, as a man
That I'm supposed to do?
Well I guess I'll ... I'll put myself
Through the fires of hell
To spend one more night with you
Amazing Grace, well yeah I guess
that's what I'm gonna do
